Ireland's police force spent over €1.6 million on counseling services for officers in the past two years, with a significant portion of the spending attributed to a rise in assaults.
The data shows a total of €1.63 million was spent on mental health supports in 2024 and 2025, with €845,441 allocated for the current year.
This increased expenditure is linked to a spike in the number of gardaí injured on duty, with over 600 officers hurt in 2025—more than half from assaults—compared to 555 in the previous year.
