Four US and Canadian divers stranded at sea in Belize were rescued by a passing catamaran.
On Holy Thursday, April 2, 2026, four divers—two Canadians and two Americans—were left stranded at sea off Belize’s southern coast after being abandoned by their dive boat near Carrie Bow Cay.
After surfacing to find no vessel waiting, the group formed a human chain and swam toward a distant mangrove island as darkness fell, enduring saltwater blisters and exhaustion.
They were eventually rescued by a passing chartered catamaran, which alerted authorities.
Two boats, including one from their resort and likely the Belize Coast Guard, retrieved the divers, who were then reunited with family members after the ordeal.
