Irish police submit investigation file on 1984 Baby John death to prosecutors.
Gardai in County Kerry have submitted an investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions regarding the 1984 death of Baby John, a five-day-old infant found with multiple stab wounds on a beach in Caherciveen.
The case, known as the "Kerry Babies" case, led to a state apology in 2018 after DNA testing confirmed Joanne Hayes was not the baby's mother.
An extensive probe launched in 2018 involved hundreds of interviews and over 560 lines of inquiry.
In March 2023, two individuals were arrested but released without charge.
The file has now been passed to prosecutors for review.
