Johnson statue restoration begins on-site after crane fails to lift it.
An 8-foot statue of George F. Johnson, founder of the Endicott Johnson shoe company, will remain in place at Tiger Park in Endicott, New York, after an attempt to move it for restoration failed in January 2026.
Officials planned to relocate the eight-foot statue for repairs but could not lift it with an 8-ton crane.
As a result, the restoration work will now be conducted on-site, with completion expected in June during warmer weather.
The project is funded through community donations from individuals, local businesses, and the Endicott Rotary.
