Shark kills snorkeler in South Australia in 1985.
On March 3, 1985, a great white shark killed and partially consumed a 33-year-old mother of four, Shirley Ann Durdin, while she was snorkelling for scallops off Peake Bay, South Australia.
The attack, witnessed by her children from nearby, left only a torso before the predator vanished.
The tragedy, one of the rare documented cases of a great white eating a human, shocked the community and briefly renewed calls for a shark cull.
