NIA takes over probe into judicial officers' hostage-taking in West Bengal.

Following a Supreme Court directive, the Election Commission of India has assigned the National Investigation Agency to investigate the gherao of seven judicial officers in Malda, West Bengal. The officers were held hostage for nearly nine hours during an electoral roll revision, with the court condemning the state's law and order failure. The NIA is expected to arrive in the state to lead the probe.
