Rare Papunya artworks debut at National Library of Australia.
Rare illustrations by pioneering Western Desert artists, including Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula, are now on display at the National Library of Australia in Canberra.
These artworks, preserved for decades in a Papunya darkroom, were created for bilingual publications by the Papunya Literature Production Centre to document Indigenous language and culture.
The free exhibition, Wangka Wakanutja, celebrates this grassroots effort to preserve stories and empower the community.
