Yangon bus ridership rose to 1.7 million daily after an odd-even license plate system began.
Following the implementation of an odd-even license plate system in early March 2026, Yangon’s public bus system saw an increase in ridership to about 1.7 million daily passengers.
The Yangon Region Public Transport Committee reported that over 5,400 buses serve the city, with 5,013 powered by compressed natural gas and 423 by diesel.
To support operations, diesel bus fuel quotas were increased, and the committee warned that buses operating outside designated routes could face reduced fuel allocations.
