Briem sentenced to over 10 years for smuggling migrants into UK via small boats.
An Iraqi national, Ramal Briem, 33, was sentenced to over 10 years in prison for his role in an international people smuggling operation that brought hundreds of migrants to the UK via small boats.
Based in Wolverhampton, Briem charged migrants £1,500 each and referred to them as "chickens" in messages with a co-conspirator, "Kevin."
Prosecutors said he collected large sums of cash and facilitated their transport from Europe into the UK, though he claimed the money was for cigarettes.
Briem pleaded guilty to conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration after being arrested in July 2024 by the National Crime Agency.
