Premiers ask PM Carney for more judicial appointment control.
Four provincial premiers—Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan—have jointly urged Prime Minister Mark Carney to grant them greater control over federal judicial appointments.
In a letter, they requested that provinces recommend and approve candidates for superior and appeal courts, arguing this would better reflect regional needs.
However, Justice Minister Sean Fraser stated the federal government has no plans to change the current process, which already involves consultations with provinces.
