Oklahoma Supreme Court rejects state bid to enforce wildlife laws on tribal reservations.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court has refused to intervene in a dispute over whether state wildlife laws apply on tribal reservations.
The court rejected a challenge from Governor Kevin Stitt and the Department of Wildlife Conservation against Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s opinion.
Drummond asserted that federal law preempts state authority, and the court ruled the issue should be resolved by federal courts, where related cases involving the Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Choctaw Nations are pending.
