The 24-year-old right-hander, who had undergone Tommy John surgery and was selected by Pittsburgh in the Rule 5 draft before being traded to Texas, impressed in spring training with one earned run allowed and 10 strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings in eight appearances.
After being informed of his promotion, Baumler struck out the side in the inning, hugged Schumaker, and celebrated with teammates.
The moment marked a dream come true for Baumler, who had previously been left off the Orioles’ 40-man roster and never pitched above Double-A before.
