San Diego County launches audit after former nonprofit COO is charged with stealing $130K in naloxone funds.
San Diego County has launched an independent audit of its contracting processes after Amy Knox, former COO of a nonprofit receiving over $4 million in public funds, was charged with embezzling more than $130,000 meant for naloxone distribution.
Knox, who has a prior felony conviction for grand theft, allegedly used the money for personal expenses including plastic surgery and travel.
The county canceled contracts with the nonprofit in 2024, and the audit, conducted by Eide Bailey, aims to identify oversight failures and recommend reforms.
Findings are expected by late May.
The District Attorney’s Office is also investigating potential systemic failures and efforts to silence employees.
Naloxone distribution continues without interruption.
