Oregon has deployed 21 firefighters and an agency representative to North Carolina under mutual aid agreements to assist with wildfire response.
The crews, from Oregon’s Forest Protective Associations and ODF Protection Districts, arrived in Charlotte and joined operations in Asheville after a briefing with North Carolina leaders.
The two-week deployment supports regional cooperation, particularly as North Carolina’s earlier fire season complements Oregon’s later peak.
These efforts are part of the Northwest Compact and ensure Oregon maintains full local response capacity.
The state has previously received aid from about 17 other jurisdictions during major fire events, including in 2025, highlighting the reciprocal nature of such partnerships.
