A North Carolina deputy was hospitalized after being hit and dragged in a high-speed chase that ended when the suspect, fleeing an arrest warrant, crashed and was arrested.
A Buncombe County deputy was hospitalized after being struck and dragged by a suspect’s vehicle during a 60-mile high-speed chase across western North Carolina on Monday.
The pursuit began when deputies went to serve an arrest warrant on Mitchell Monroe Gunter, who fled, leading to multiple vehicle collisions and thefts across Yancey, Mitchell, and Avery counties.
Gunter eventually crashed and was arrested, airlifted to Mission Hospital, and now faces multiple charges including assault on a law enforcement officer, larceny, and resisting arrest.
The injured deputy was treated and released.
Authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s medical condition or the full extent of the officer’s injuries.
