A woman campaigning for Sinn Féin presidential candidate Catherine Connolly alleged she was punched in the face during a canvassing event on North Strand Road in Dublin 1 on October 24, 2025, causing her to fall and be taken to hospital, though she did not seek further treatment.
Daniel Soave, 39, appeared at Dublin District Court facing charges of assault causing harm and public order offences, including threatening and abusive behavior.
He denied the allegations, calling them “complete lies,” and was granted legal aid despite earning €600 weekly.
The case was deemed suitable for summary disposal, and Soave was remanded on bail with strict conditions, including not contacting the victim, witnesses, or campaign personnel, and avoiding social media.
The next court date is scheduled for July.
