India’s Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, now with a Rs 8.69 lakh crore budget and a 2028 deadline, is expected to generate a Rs 3 lakh crore operations and maintenance market. The shift from infrastructure building to sustainable service delivery includes water quality monitoring and digital oversight via the Sujalam Bharat platform. Rural tap connections have surged to 1,582.3 lakh, boosting coverage to over 81%, though challenges remain in execution, payment delays, and system quality. ICRA projects payment cycles will improve to under 60 days by September 2026, benefiting EPC firms and technical pipe manufacturers. While 11 states have full coverage, eight lag below 80%.
