Australia's Silicon Quantum Computing gets $20M to build first commercial quantum computer using silicon.
Sydney-based Silicon Quantum Computing, founded by Michelle Simmons, has received $20 million from the National Reconstruction Fund to advance its goal of building the world’s first commercial-scale quantum computer.
The funding will support domestic production of quantum chips using silicon with atomic precision, a technique developed since its 2017 founding as a University of NSW spin-off.
The company recently launched a product to accelerate AI model training.
Projections suggest quantum technology could add $6.1 billion to Australia’s economy and create over 19,000 jobs by 2045.
