Apple to add ads to Maps this summer, labeling sponsored results for search terms.
Apple is planning to introduce ads into its Maps app as early as this summer, according to reports, marking a major shift from its long-standing ad-free model.
Businesses will be able to bid for top placements in search results—such as “Italian food” or “gas station”—with sponsored listings clearly labeled.
The move supports Apple’s broader effort to grow its services division, which generated over $109 billion in 2025 and now makes up about a quarter of company revenue.
Ads will appear across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web platforms, following a similar model to those in the App Store.
While Apple has not officially confirmed the change, multiple reports suggest the rollout is imminent, with potential announcements before the end of March 2026.
