Alibaba launches XuanTie C950, a high-performance RISC-V server chip for AI, amid U.S. tech restrictions.

Alibaba has launched the XuanTie C950, a 5-nanometer server chip based on open-source RISC-V architecture, running at 3.2 GHz and designed for agentic AI workloads. Developed by its T-Head unit, the chip delivers over three times the performance of its predecessor and supports customizable designs for specific computing needs. The release is part of Alibaba’s broader strategy to strengthen its in-house semiconductor capabilities amid U.S. tech restrictions and rising competition. The company is also advancing its AI platforms, including Wukong and Accio Work, and reorganizing its AI teams under the Alibaba Token Hub. Meanwhile, European broadcasters have urged the EU to enforce the Digital Markets Act on major smart TV operating systems, citing concerns over market dominance and ecosystem favoritism.
