Valerie Thean appointed deputy attorney-general of Singapore, effective April 1, 2026.
Justice Valerie Thean has been appointed deputy attorney-general of Singapore effective April 1, 2026, the Prime Minister's Office announced on March 23.
She will step down as a Supreme Court judge on March 31 after serving since 2017, following her 2014 appointment as judicial commissioner.
A Cambridge and Harvard Law School graduate, Thean has held key legal roles including senior state counsel, deputy secretary at the Ministry of Law, and the first presiding judge of the Family Justice Courts.
Attorney-General Lucien Wong praised her expertise in family and juvenile justice, as well as her extensive legal experience.
She will join other deputy attorneys-general Lionel Yee, Tai Wei Shyong, and Goh Yihan.
