A Texas ex-correctional officer was arrested for smuggling tobacco into a prison and bribery, admitting to using burritos and CashApp for the scheme.
A 56-year-old former correctional officer, James Byron Thibideaux, was arrested on March 12 in Rusk County, Texas, on charges of smuggling tobacco into the Bradshaw Unit prison and bribery.
Authorities said staff found tobacco in a bathroom trash can after Thibideaux was seen leaving the area.
He reportedly admitted to discarding burritos containing tobacco with the intent to deliver them to an inmate and confirmed receiving payment via CashApp.
Thibideaux was released two days later with a $15,000 bond and is awaiting court proceedings.
Authorities stress that smuggling contraband into prisons is a serious crime, and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
