Scottish students design tartan for U.S. 250th anniversary, to be presented in Washington DC.
Students at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland are designing a tartan to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, as part of the America250 initiative.
Selected by the Scottish Government USA, five students created designs inspired by shared history, including Highland dance, American independence, and the enduring Scotland-U.S. relationship.
The winning tartan will be registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority, woven at Lovat Mill in Hawick, and presented in Washington DC by the student designer.
The project highlights Scotland’s historical influence on the U.S., including contributions from Scottish immigrants and founding figures.
