Over 70% of Irish work permit holders faced exploitation, with most afraid to report due to strict job rules.
A survey of over 1,000 Irish employment permit holders by Migrant Rights Centre Ireland, conducted between July 2025 and February 2026, found 71% experienced exploitation, including excessive hours, denied breaks, underpayment, and fear of retaliation.
Many were trapped due to a five-year job restriction, with 51% too afraid to report abuse and only 3% filing formal complaints.
Female workers faced higher exploitation rates.
The report calls for reforms including job mobility after two years, criminal penalties for severe abuse, and bans on exploitative employers.
