Odisha launched 141 water projects, boosted irrigation and access, and empowered women in water management on World Water Day 2026.
On World Water Day 2026, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched 141 water projects worth Rs 2,612 crore, including 17 new initiatives and 124 completed ones, to boost irrigation, drinking water access, and conservation.
He emphasized women’s growing role in water management through the 'Mission Power' program, with women now leading efforts in storage, repair, and maintenance.
The state is advancing water security via canal lining, smart irrigation, groundwater recharge, and technology like an AI chatbot named "Bindu."
Majhi also promoted gender inclusion through women-led "Jal Sathis," expanded irrigation by 2.2 lakh hectares, and aligned efforts with national goals like Jal Jeevan Mission and Sustainable Development Goal 6.
