The €43 million Glassworks Building One has opened on the former Waterford Crystal site in County Waterford, marking the start of Ireland’s first co-located university enterprise quarter.
The 80,000 sq ft, LEED Gold and WiredScore Gold-rated building, developed by a joint venture between the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund and Frisby, will eventually house up to 800 employees on a 37-acre campus near South East Technological University.
It aims to boost regional innovation and job creation, with clinical provider Veonet Ireland opening a day hospital unit and partnering with SETU on optometry training.
Over half of the building is expected to be occupied within a month, with plans for a 582-bed student residence and additional sustainable buildings.
Officials call the project transformative for economic growth and university-industry collaboration.
