India won’t waive farmer loans, but offers existing support; armed forces disability pensions remain tax-exempt.
The Indian government has no plans for a complete loan waiver for farmers, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed in Parliament, citing existing support measures including subsidized crop loans via the Kisan Credit Card scheme, increased collateral-free loans up to ₹2 lakh, and credit flow through RBI’s Priority Sector Lending guidelines.
Additional aid includes crop insurance and direct cash transfers under PM-KISAN.
On tax policy, disability pensions for armed forces personnel invalided out due to service-related disabilities remain exempt under the new Income-tax Act, 2025, with the Finance Bill, 2026, preserving this benefit without needing a grandfathering clause.
