Hungary’s PM orders probe into unverified claims that Foreign Minister was wiretapped by foreign spy agency.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has ordered an investigation into reports that Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto was wiretapped by a foreign intelligence service, calling it a serious breach of Hungary’s sovereignty.
The allegations, based on an unverified audio recording obtained by Mandiner, claim journalist Szabolcs Panyi provided Szijjarto’s phone number to an EU member state’s intelligence agency.
The recording also suggests Panyi has close ties to Anita Orban, a Tisza Party foreign policy expert, and may have access to sensitive communications, including those involving Russian officials.
No official confirmation has been made, and the claims remain unverified amid rising political tensions ahead of Hungary’s April elections.
