EPFO to auto-credit ₹5,200 crore to 8 lakh dormant PF accounts with Aadhaar.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to auto-settle Rs 5,200 crore in unclaimed funds from about 8 lakh inactive PF accounts linked to Aadhaar, crediting balances directly to bank accounts without claims.
The move, pending official confirmation, targets accounts inactive for three years, including those with balances from Rs 50,000 to over Rs 5 lakh.
As of February 2026, EPFO managed 31 lakh inactive accounts with Rs 10,181 crore in unclaimed funds, many dormant for over a decade.
Interest stops after 36 months of inactivity.
The EPFO maintained an 8.25% interest rate for 2025–26, the second year in a row.
