Australia’s unions seek a 5% wage rise to combat inflation, pushing hourly pay to $26.19.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions is seeking a 5% minimum wage increase, raising it from $24.95 to $26.19 an hour, to help low-income workers cope with inflation outpacing wage growth.
The proposed rise, which would add about $2,465 annually to full-time pay, comes amid rising housing, energy, and fuel costs.
ACTU says the increase would add only 0.6% to the national wage bill and won’t fuel inflation, despite employer concerns.
The claim will be submitted to the Fair Work Commission, with potential adjustments based on upcoming economic data.
