WHO delivers 22 tons of medical aid to Beirut via new land route amid Middle East conflict.
The World Health Organization has sent its first overland convoy of 22 metric tonnes of medical supplies from its Dubai hub to Beirut, marking a new route amid escalating Middle East disruptions.
The shipment, enough to treat 50,000 patients and support 40,000 surgeries, arrives as Lebanon faces a humanitarian crisis following Hezbollah’s March 2 rocket attacks on Israel, triggering Israeli military responses that have killed over 1,000 people and strained the health system.
The WHO reported 63 attacks on healthcare facilities, transport, and supplies since March 2, resulting in 51 deaths and 91 injuries, while urging protection of medical services.
Additional shipments are planned, and the Dubai hub has resumed operations via land routes after briefly halting due to airspace closures and security concerns.
