Three men were stopped on the M6 after inconsistent statements, leading to the discovery of stolen goods in their car.
One suspect, 38-year-old Guram Niparishvili of Glasgow, pleaded guilty to three thefts, was sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
He claimed the thefts were unplanned and that he only took part in one.
Two other suspects remain at large with arrest warrants outstanding.
