Starting April 10, 2026, British travellers to 29 European countries will need to provide fingerprints and a facial photo when entering the EU under the new Entry/Exit System (ESS).
The system, fully operational by early April, replaces manual passport stamps with digital biometric tracking for short stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
It applies to all non-EU visitors and aims to strengthen border security, prevent overstays, and reduce illegal migration across the Schengen Area.
