INEOS sues to regain £180M America’s Cup yacht after splitting from Ben Ainslie’s team.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, founder of INEOS, has filed legal action to reclaim the £180 million AC75 yacht used in the 2024 America’s Cup, claiming it belongs to his company despite Athena Racing, led by Sir Ben Ainslie, asserting ownership and ongoing control.
The dispute stems from INEOS’s 2025 split with Ainslie’s team, which now leads the British challenge for the 38th America’s Cup in Naples.
Athena Racing continues preparing with a 150-member team, conducting trials and finalizing crew, while other teams like Emirates Team New Zealand and France’s La Roche-Posay Racing Team advance their preparations.
The deadline for entries in Naples closes March 31 with no extension expected.
