Four MP cops suspended for taking ₹20 lakh bribe to return ₹80 lakh seized from Gujarat businessman.
Four Madhya Pradesh police officers were suspended after allegedly accepting a 20 lakh rupee bribe to release a Gujarat businessman who was stopped in Guna district on March 19 with one crore rupees in cash.
Instead of seizing the money and reporting it to the Income Tax department as required, the officers reportedly returned 80 lakh rupees after taking the bribe.
The case emerged after social media scrutiny and a request from Gujarat officials, prompting an investigation led by IPS officer Ayush Jakhar.
The suspensions include a station house officer, an assistant sub-inspector, and two constables.
Police are required under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to seize cash over 10 lakh rupees and refer it to the appropriate authority.
