DA’s Karabo Khakhau disqualified from deputy chair race over financial paperwork, sparking democracy concerns.
DA MP Karabo Khakhau has been disqualified from the party’s deputy chairperson race for the federal council after failing to provide a letter of good financial standing, despite paying R8,500 in overdue tithes within 24 hours of a demand.
The Free State provincial and federal executives upheld the decision, though past cases allowed similar candidates to run.
Khakhau, who advocates for greater inclusion of young, Black women in the party, said the disqualification undermines internal democracy and reflects broader tensions over leadership and reform ahead of the DA’s national congress.
