Andhra Pradesh has approved ₹59.85 crore to build five Compressed Bio-Gas plants in Rajamahendravaram, Nellore, Guntur, Ongole, and upgrade one in Vijayawada, with a combined capacity of 125 tonnes per day.
The project, supported by CSIR–IICT and funded jointly by central and state governments, aims to convert municipal waste into clean fuel, reduce landfill use, and boost renewable energy.
Local bodies will provide land and utilities, while private developers will invest 36% and recover costs via CBG sales over 20 years.
The initiative marks a shift from failed PPP models and supports sustainable urban waste management.
