A 48-year-old Ulverston woman was fined £40 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £16 victim surcharge after admitting to wilfully obstructing the A590 dual carriageway by attempting to hitchhike on February 10.
Police were alerted after drivers swerved to avoid her, leading to her arrest at the Blue Light Hub.
Her defense cited ongoing mental health issues and a belief that walking in the road was easier than using the pavement, as she sought to reach Barrow to replace a lost bank card.
No injuries occurred.
The case was heard at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on March 16, and she receives Universal Credit and Personal Independent Payments.
