United Airlines cuts 5% of flights in 2026 due to high fuel costs from Middle East conflict, but will restore schedule by fall.
United Airlines is cutting about 5% of its flights in the second and third quarters of 2026 due to sharply rising jet fuel prices fueled by Middle East conflict, with CEO Scott Kirby warning oil could stay above $100 a barrel through 2027, potentially adding $11 billion annually to fuel costs.
The cuts include reducing off-peak flights, suspending service to Tel Aviv and Dubai, and limiting capacity at Chicago O’Hare.
Despite the reductions, demand remains strong, and the airline plans to restore its full schedule by fall, maintain its workforce, and continue aircraft deliveries and long-term growth plans.
