Swiss athlete Simon Ehammer set a new world record in the men's indoor heptathlon at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, scoring 6,670 points—25 above the previous mark set by Ashton Eaton in 2012.
Over two days, Ehammer achieved top results in all seven events, including personal bests in the 60m (6.69 seconds), long jump (8.15 meters), 60m hurdles (7.52 seconds), pole vault (5.30 meters), shot put (14.87 meters), and high jump (2.02 meters).
He sealed the victory with a 1,000m run of 2:41.04.
American athletes Heath Baldwin and Kyle Garland finished second and third with 6,337 and 6,245 points, respectively.
Ehammer, who withdrew from the decathlon at the Paris Olympics, said he aimed to improve his European record but did not expect to break the world mark.
Baldwin praised the achievement for inspiring competitors worldwide.
