Supreme Court's refusal to hear appeals paves way for $600M East Palestine train derailment payouts by June 2026.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal to hear appeals has cleared the way for direct payments from the $600 million East Palestine train derailment settlement, with payouts expected by June 2026. Business loss claims will follow later in the year, while remaining personal injury payments are set for March 31, 2026.
Some claims, including those for minors or incapacitated individuals, require extra steps and won’t be included in the March distribution.
The derailment occurred on February 3, 2023, and while some personal injury payments have already been issued, most affected residents have yet to receive compensation due to legal delays.
Non-class members’ challenges to the settlement were rejected by both the Sixth Circuit and the Supreme Court.
