RPI(A) to contest 2026 state polls in TN, KL, AS; back BJP in WB to block split.
The Republican Party of India (Athawale) will contest assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam, aiming for 25–30 seats in Tamil Nadu, 10–12 in Kerala, and 15–20 in Assam.
The party is considering backing the BJP in West Bengal to prevent vote splitting but will not field candidates there to oppose Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Voting begins April 9 in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, with Tamil Nadu and West Bengal voting April 23 and April 23–29, respectively.
Vote counting is set for May 4.
The party holds no seats in Maharashtra’s assembly or Lok Sabha, with Union Minister Ramdas Athawale its sole representative in Parliament.
