Purdue guard Braden Smith broke Bobby Hurley’s NCAA Division I career assists record during the Boilermakers’ first-round NCAA Tournament game against Queens, recording his 1,077th assist with a pass to Trey Kaufman-Renn.
The senior, already the only player in NCAA history with 1,500 points, 1,000 assists, and 500 rebounds, became one of only two players to record 300 assists in two seasons.
His milestone came in St. Louis, as Purdue advanced in the tournament, with Smith also leading the nation in assists and earning second-team AP All-America honors.
