The Mets moved veteran lefty Sean Manaea to the bullpen for 2026, opting for a five-man rotation.
The New York Mets have moved veteran left-hander Sean Manaea from the starting rotation to the bullpen for the 2026 season, manager Carlos Mendoza announced.
Manaea, 34, will begin in a piggyback role, pitching after starters, as the team opts for a five-man rotation led by Freddy Peralta, David Peterson, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, and Kodai Senga.
The decision follows strong spring training performances from six pitchers, including Manaea’s 0-2 record and 3.72 ERA in three starts.
Last season, injuries limited him to 15 appearances with a 5.64 ERA.
Manaea remains under contract through 2027 after signing a three-year, $75 million deal in 2024.
The Mets open the season Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
