Kerala's CM blames past central governments for India's energy crisis, citing the canceled Iran-India gas pipeline and U.S. influence.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan blamed both Congress and BJP-led central governments for India’s energy crisis, citing the 2006 cancellation of the Iran-India gas pipeline as a major policy failure driven by foreign pressure.
He criticized the removal of then-Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar for supporting the project and accused successive governments of favoring corporate interests, undermining domestic production, and succumbing to U.S. influence on oil imports.
Vijayan warned that these decisions have led to fuel price volatility, supply instability, and economic strain, especially on the service sector, and called for independent energy policy, strategic reserves, and greater investment in renewables ahead of state elections.
