Kelly Lee-Carroll and family members faked disability claims to steal $1.1M in VA benefits, sentenced to prison and fines.
Kelly M. Lee-Carroll, 58, of Kent, Washington, was sentenced to 17 months in prison and ordered to pay $932,142 in restitution for orchestrating a $1.1 million VA disability fraud scheme.
She falsely claimed to be severely disabled and relied on caregivers, despite limited military service, and recruited her son and sister to falsely pose as caregivers while working other jobs or traveling.
The trio collected over $11,000 monthly in benefits they were not entitled to, using funds for a second home, vacations, and personal expenses.
All three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government property and health care fraud.
The case was investigated by the VA Office of the Inspector General and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which emphasized that VA benefits are intended for genuine veterans and caregivers, not luxury lifestyles.
