Justin Hernandez, 32, of Evanston, was charged with felony home invasion after allegedly breaking into a home on March 10, kicking in the back door, threatening residents, and reaching for a knife.
Police found him with a severe, unexplained bleeding injury to his left arm near the door.
Residents locked themselves in a room until officers arrived, applied a tourniquet, and transported Hernandez to a hospital for treatment and psychiatric evaluation.
He has no memory of the injury.
After being released, he was arrested and is now held at Cook County Jail ahead of his April 8 court appearance.
