Japan to provide $609M in loans to Vietnam for green projects in northern mountainous regions.
Vietnam and Japan signed an exchange of notes on March 20, 2026, for approximately 90 billion yen ($609 million) in concessional loans to support green transition, climate resilience, and sustainable development in northern mountainous regions, particularly for ethnic minority communities.
The funding will support renewable energy, climate-adaptive infrastructure, disaster-resilient rural development, and green growth, reinforcing Japan’s role as Vietnam’s largest bilateral donor and advancing their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The agreement includes a 50-billion-yen policy loan, reflecting Japan’s confidence in Vietnam’s fiscal management.
