India has denied reports that the U.S. sought permission to launch strikes on Iran from Indian territory, calling the claims "baseless" and urging the public to avoid spreading misinformation.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the 2016 Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) only allows for logistical support like refueling and repairs, not offensive military operations.
India reiterated it has not permitted the use of its ports, airspace, or military facilities for any U.S. military actions related to the Iran crisis.
The denial comes amid heightened regional tensions following U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, prompting Iranian retaliation.
The U.S. has since secured UK permission to use British bases for defensive operations targeting Iranian missile capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz, but the UK stressed it is not seeking a broader military role.
