A Delhi court allows Congress's Kharge time to respond to a petition challenging the dismissal of a 2023 hate speech complaint.
A Delhi court has granted Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge time to respond to a revision petition challenging the dismissal of a criminal complaint alleging hate speech during a 2023 Karnataka rally.
The Tis Hazari Court had previously ruled the remarks were political criticism, not hate speech, and found no incitement to violence or legal basis for defamation under Section 500 IPC, noting the Prime Minister did not file the complaint.
The case, based on a Supreme Court precedent requiring a direct link between speech and public disorder, is set for hearing on April 1.
